Spring is here at last, allegedly, although tell that to my horses who are in 300g rugs & getting rained on! The arena TREC season has drawn to a close after 5 very well attended competitions and we are looking forward to our busiest summer in a long time, with plenty going on for members at all levels.
Prize draw winners
Our ‘leap into spring’ survey draw winners, chosen at random from a list of all who gave their details are:
WHTG members: 1 Fiona Newboult £20, 2 Dawn Phythian £10, 3 Sheila Rogerson £5
Non-members: 1 Nicola Manning £20, 2 Sal Ingham £10, 3 Mary Bray £5
Vouchers for money off WHTG entries/clothing will be posted out to the winners, to be used by 30 September 2016. They are transferable if you do not live in the area, but we hope to see you at one of our events this summer!
New hat standards
As you will no doubt be aware, new hat standards came into force for most equestrian disciplines in January this year. Our insurers SEIB recommend that all riders wear hats to the current standards.
Please see this very useful guide by BRC for 2016 BRC Hat Tagging – the second page shows you what to look for in your hat. Riders at Ingleby – hats will be checked before starting the competition and anyone who does not have a hat to 2016 standards will not be allowed to compete.
Fundraising for the GB TREC Team
Great work by Dave Rogerson (TREC Team GB Chef d’Equipe) and his dedicated troop of helpers at Markington on 20th March saw a total of £418.68 raised to help the British TREC team get their horses over to Spain for the 2016 World TREC Championships on 1-3 September. Team members are going to be actively fundraising at most of our competitions this year with activities such as guided course walks, raffles, cake stalls and catering – please support them where you can.
It was a very wet morning on Easter Monday at Thornton House TREC Competition but that didn’t put the majority of competitors off and we were pleased with all the positive comments we received. Thanks to our judges and helpers – without you we couldn’t go ahead.

Summer competitions & volunteers
We have an incredibly busy season planned, and with each two-day event calling on around 30 judges and helpers we really need everyone to provide help for one full day (or two halves) through the summer – this can include building the PTV the afternoon before, or judging another level’s PTV/paces if you are riding. If we don’t get enough help, events simply can’t go ahead. We will be emailing all members this month to ask which date(s) you will be available, so please have a look at the list below and identify your helping dates along with your competitions. Anyone who makes a special journey to help out (unfortunately not those who are competing or travelling with competitors) will be given cash towards their mileage, and we always look after our judges well with refreshments.
17 April We have just four competitor places left for competitors at our starter competition at Ingleby Hall Livery Yard, a very accessible venue near Lincoln – ENTRIES CLOSE FRIDAY 8TH. This will be a lovely friendly, low-key event with plenty of help from all the judges. The obstacles and paces will be in a large outdoor arena, there will be no map room and the orienteering phase will be ~8km around fields, with the possibility of some quiet road work. You can enter on equo here.
Evie needs three more judges from around 10am-3pm, please come along if you are available. You don’t need to have attended a judging course or have any experience as a full briefing will be given on the day. If you are able to help, please email email@example.com

Guy Robertson – we had hoped to be able to book a WHTG training clinic with Guy for something a little different for our members, but he is just too busy with other clinics within the UK and abroad as you can see from his website, so instead we would like to get a group together to see one of his demonstrations.
Friday 6 May, Rockwood Equestrian, Wakefield, demonstration 6.30-8.30pm entry is £10 on the door, but WHTG will subsidise members’ entry by £5 – contact firstname.lastname@example.org to join in.
Thank you once again to our wonderful band of organisers, helpers and judges for putting on a fantastic day which raised lots of money for the TREC GB International Squad – the final amount will be confirmed in the next newsletter. We had lots of support from new TREC-ies, and hope to see you all at our outdoor events through the summer.
Photographer Amy Griffiths was at the event, you can find her at:www.facebook.com/amygriffithsphotography or www.amysgriffiths.wix.com/photography

Please look at the course plan which will be displayed and read the judging sheets before this if possible. Any questions please ask. We’re happy to give help and advice on the day and want everyone to have fun.
